Continuous health awareness concerning the effects of smoking and secondhand smoking can't be ignored especially by health and media authorities in the government. The fight against smoking starts there and all members of the community must be included, especially young people and children, so that they become educated on the harmful effects of secondhand smoking and how to avoid it.
At home:
- All members of the family, especially children, should be aware of the negative effects of secondhand smoking and how it affects everyone, not just the smoker. Smoking cigarettes inside the house should be prohibited whether inside or in the yard, either by the family or by guests.
- If smoking must happen inside the house, then it should be in an isolated area away from children, who are most likely to be affected by secondhand smoke. This area should be well ventilated with fans and windows to release the smoke outside.
- Any worker coming to the house must not be allowed to smoke even one cigarette, especially when children are around.
In other public places:
- Children should not be exposed to second-hand smoke in kindergartens or schools, where smoking should be strictly prohibited.
- Smoking should be prohibited in public places including workplaces, governmental and non-governmental buildings where people come in contact with eachother, as well as at airports, restaurants, hotels and other places.
